RM Sovich Architecture designed this 12,000 square foot adaptive reuse/ conversion of three rowhouses on Maryland Avenue into supportive housing for 27 men, full commercial kitchen, offices for the Tuerk House, and a community meeting room. A rear addition expands program space and an additional stair tower, accessibility access, and service entrance. Foundations were undercut to increase ceiling height in the basement and accommodate office and meeting space. Party walls between homes were stabilized and opened to allow free flow throughout the space while providing additional aesthetics from exposed brick. A new wood-framed feature stair at the front of the house connects the living level with the two upper sleeping floors.
